E-commerce and digital marketing jobs require a deep understanding of people. In order to effectively sell products or services online, you must understand how your audience thinks and what motivates them. You should have some or all of these key skills to thrive in the Middle East tech scene: the ability to analyse data and campaign results, strong writing, editing, and communication skills, knowledge and experience of CRM programs, spreadsheets, and other industry software.

Ideally, you enjoy collaboration, you know company products and services inside out, you have an eye for design and layouts, plus you have good time management skills and the ability to prioritise. The ability to speak more than one language is also an asset in many digital marketing jobs. In the UAE, English/Arabic bilingual speakers are in particularly high demand.

education & training.

Most e-commerce and digital marketing jobs require a university degree or diploma. While not usually a requirement, a Master's degree can set you apart from others in your field. Prior experience in the Gulf region is often required for senior level jobs in competitive markets such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

You can increase your expertise by obtaining certifications in a variety of e-commerce, digital marketing, analytics, and CRM specialties.

Opportunities to advance your career are abundant in the e-commerce and digital marketing sectors, which often blend analytics, programming, graphics, multimedia, writing, and design skills. Many managers and executives start their careers in marketing, as this field hones several skills you need as a leader, such as interpersonal and communication skills, and the ability to think strategically.

Senior roles worth considering include project management, marketing manager, or even executive roles such as marketing director, VP of marketing, or CMO. Many digital marketing skills are highly transferable, so you might consider jobs in related fields such as communications or PR. You could also become a freelancer or consultant in some parts of the Middle East, such as Dubai.
