Jordan sees participation of women in employment rise

The participation of women in the Jordanian jobs market has risen by around ten per cent, latest data reveal.

According to the country's Department of Statistics, the refined economic participation rate was around 15.4 per cent in the first three months of 2010 compared with 14 per cent for the same period of 2009.

Meanwhile, the rate of unemployment in Jordan has risen to similar levels to those seen in early 2008, with the jobless level at 12.4 per cent for the first quarter of 2010.

This compares with a figure of 12.1 per cent at the end of 2009 and 12.2 per cent for the first three months of last year.

Plans for the city may be of particular interest to those seeking finance jobs in Abu Dhabi, with Mr Al Ahbabi explaining Reem Island is expected to accommodate 200,000 people within the next five or ten years, becoming the emirate's financial hub.

However, the employment market for those seeking jobs in Jordan may improve over the coming months, as official figures reveal gross domestic product growth reached 2.9 per cent during the fourth quarter of 2009, boosted by strong performance in manufacturing.
