stay or go?
You may find that your new job lives up to all your expectations, your work colleagues are friends in the making and your boss is impressed with your work. But what if the worst happens; the dream job you thought you had landed turns out to be more of a nightmare?
What to do if the job of your dreams isn’t what you expect:
The first thing to do is not to panic or make any rash decisions. If you find yourself in this situation, follow our plan below to help you decide whether you can stick it out, or if you should start looking for another job:
What is the problem? By pinning down exactly what it is that you don’t like about your new job, you will be one step closer to solving the problem.
What can you do to help the situation? Think about the practical actions you can take to solve the problems facing you at work. Then do them.
If you have been placed by a recruitment agency, talk your concerns over with the consultant that placed you. And if Randstad MENA didn’t place you, talk to us anyway. We’ve placed thousands of individuals just like you, and we can offer you some perspective along with practical, informed and confidential advice.
How long have you been in the job? Usually, people take three months to ‘settle in’ to a new job properly, so set a reasonable length of time to give it a fair chance. If things still aren’t any better, reconsider your position.
Ask yourself, will moving job solve the problem? For example, if you feel that the industry itself is not for you, then you may have to rethink your career plans altogether.
Talk to your boss about your concerns. If your boss is the problem, find someone that you can talk to in confidence to voice your concerns. Go into the meeting with a positive attitude towards finding a solution, participate fully and stress your desire to succeed at the job. Don’t use it as an opportunity to moan.
If the solution hasn’t made your situation any better, and you still feel you want to leave, think about how long you will need to stay in your current job in order to get enough experience to move on. Again, talking to a consultant at Randstad MENA will help clarify this.
If you decide to leave, keep positive. Learn from the experience; did you go for the wrong kind of job and do you now know what will suit you better?
Find a job before you hand your notice in. Looking for a job is a full time occupation, so
contact Randstad MENA
and let us do the searching for you.
