UAE labor market will grow in Q4

08 October 2009
UAE labor market will grow in Q4
The employment market of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will begin to recover at the end of 2009, according to a report in Emirates Business.

The Middle Eastern daily newspaper disclosed that recruitment experts in the federation of seven emirates identified improved economic performance and a shortage of skilled labor as signs that employment will return to growth this year.

James Sayer, senior manager at the executive search firm Robert Half, suggested that recruitment campaigns will begin in the last quarter of 2009, but that they would not reach the levels witnessed in 2008.

He claimed that employers who made redundancies in the first six months of this year are now looking to increase their workforces.

Speaking to Emirates Business, he said: "With the market picking up, [these businesses] realise they may have cut too deeply and are looking to re-hire to cope with increased workloads."

Last month, Nepal's minister for labor, Mohammad Aftab Alam held talks with his UAE counterpart to discuss legislation for the country's thousands of migrants working in the Middle East.
